Hello Sujeet,

First of all, I would like to thank you for putting up so much information online. Now, let me tell you about my background, I am basically an accounting/finance professional; therefore, I have no knowledge of databases at all. However, I am interested in becoming a DBA (SQL 2008 R) so could you please guide me where to start. Also, can you tell me if it is a good idea to even try for becoming a dba as I have no IT background ever. As you mentioned in your blog, which books do you suggest I should buy in order to get the basics coverd?

In fact, I went to one training session of SQL but got very confused and discouraged since I was not able to understand much of what the instructor was teaching due to lack of basic knowledge of database.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,
Takshak Shah

Hi Sujeet,
Thank you very much for your kind reply. I appreciate your effort to help me out in choosing my career. I did read your article and felt better after going through it. I would like to order the best book available for beginners in order to understand the basics. Please suggest me which book(s) I should purchase to get started. I already have SQL 2008 R2 downloaded on my machine. Hope to hear from you soon Sir.
